Where Grief Meets the Gospel

By January 23, 2026No Comments

Human beings are perishing on the streets of our city. Death is a reality for all, but on the streets around the Mission, it seems to be a closer enemy. Whether from violence, drugs, or alcohol, people are in danger of being lost forever every single day.

Yesterday, a man tragically died on the streets outside our Mission. Today, his mom and sister came to grieve, putting out letters, flowers, and candles in his memory.

Word spread, and Chris, our Director of Chaplaincy, went out to minister to their hearts, praying with them and comforting them.
We can’t save everyone on the streets – that’s God’s job. But we can be there to minister to the broken and hurting and offer a better way. We can be there to throw them a lifeline amidst addiction, food in times of hunger, and shelter from wind and rain. Most importantly, we can offer them lasting hope in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, that if they repent and believe, they can be saved not just now, but for eternity.
Please pray for this grieving family, that the Lord would comfort them and bring them to Himself. Please pray for our frontline team, our staff, and volunteers who serve tirelessly to minister to the hurting around us. And pray for those on the street – that the Lord would not just save their bodies from peril, but that He would shower His grace and save their souls.
